Marjorie is from Pana, Illinois. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Saint Louis University (SLU). Through her work at the University, Marjorie heads SLU FoodCorps, an operation that coordinates the integration of local foods into Saint Louis Public Schools. Margie wears many hats in the community as she serves on the Illinois Department of Public Health Nutrition Advisory Council, collaborates with the Illinois Public Health Institute’s Obesity Prevention Working Group on Health Food Access, co-chairs Healthy Farms, Health People Statewide Symposium, and holds the Grant Coordinator position for Farm to Table for Kids at the Belleville Old Town Market. Margie’s passion lies in encouraging the growth of sustainable food systems which is rooted in her past, living on Eckert Orchards farm in the late 70s. Since then, Margie has assisted the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at SLU with multiple endeavors including the start-up of Clayton Farmer’s Market, and coordination of a children’s gardens to tables summer culinary camp. In 2006, Marjorie became a vendor at the Belleville Old Town Market in Belleville, Illinois selling herbs, soaps, lotion bars, and lip balms. She co-teaches a sustainable foods systems course at Saint Louis University.
